Susie Suh – Invisible Love

The amazingly beautiful voice of Suh explores the different aspects of love and hope from romantic and family to best friends. It is hard to focus on the lyrics when the vocals are so intoxicating. The simple melodies of the music itself is a just a backdrop for her incredible vocals. Put this album on and let it fill your space while reading or working. Highlight for the album for me is “Winning Feeling”  which is an upbeat track that describes how you feel when someone you desire looks at you in that special way. I loved the witty judgemental lines of the get-over-yourself song: “The Taste of Your Own Tears” like  ‘you keep trying to find yourself in all the wrong places’ and ‘you find comfort in your pain’. So apropos of a culture that is obsessed with broadcasting its dysfunction as its identity. In contrast, “This is Love” is a serious siren’s call to an authentic relationship. The lack of frivolity in the work is more of an absolute declaration than a longing. Jophiel (Beauty of God) in hebrew is a haunting prayer for change in the culture.  The last song is perhaps the most beautiful on the album. “Blood Moon” is an incredible work of hope and longing for the a better future.
