The Postal Service – Give up

Oddly seductive. Lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Gibbard does his usual great job of constructing new hypnotic melodies but paired with stripped down music of drum machines and Thomas Dolby sounding keyboards from Jimmy Tamborello. The album is carried on the melody of the songs. The work is full of melancholy tones but sweetly naive arrangements and interesting lyrics. From the ‘stick your head in the sand’ concept of “Sleeping In” to the very pretty “Such Great Heights” and the realistic abruptness of “Nothing Better” it encompasses the cultural attitudes of the early 2000s. The album is best on headphones while drinking coffee contemplating the OTs.
