The highly allegorical narrative of the album lets you pretend you’re in a comic book movie and then just when you’re enjoying the storyline the lyrics come back on you and hit you where you live in the real world. This album is sneaky. The Pink Robots could be depression, or ambition, or insecurity. Basically whatever you feed your engery to. Overtime these self invented enemies can develop a mind of their own and it can feel like they are eating us. The more I listen the more I like this album. The pop fantasy takes you from adventurous battle scenes to brooding ‘sympathy for the devil’ perspectives on technology in “One More Robot”. It doesn’t take much imagination to picture the soundscapes painted in the music but then you begin to realize the lyrics are more relevant in today’s algorithm-driven culture than even when it was recorded. Much of the lyrics come across as accidentally prophetic. As in the “Are You a Hypnotist?” which speaks of our addiction to something we know wants to destroy us. Other highlights include “Fight Test” and “Do You Realize”. Crank this album up, it is best listened to loud! Let your mind draw the story board but then dont forget this is not a cartoon anime life. The robots DO actually want to eat you.
